About Oregon, U.S., Death Index, 1898-2008

Originally a haven for fur traders, Oregon became the thirty-third state in 1859. This database is a collection of individuals who died in the state during the years 1898 through 2008. Researchers will find information including the deceased's name, the place and date of death, the certificate number, the age at death, and possibly information concerning a spouse.

The original index includes only the last two digits of the birth year. In our data structure, we have assumed that all persons died before the age of 100. If you are searching for a person who died after the age of 100, search for the birth year in the following century, as our database will represent the person as having died shortly after birth.

This information was taken from a microfilm index compiled by the Oregon State Health Department.

More information, including copies of original certificates, may be obtained by contacting the Oregon Health Department, Center for Health Statistics, 800 NE Oregon Street, Portland, Oregon, 97232; (503) 731-4027.
