This collection is an index to slave insurance policies registered in Illinois pursuant to Illinois Public Act 93-0333, which required every licensed insurer to report on policies that were issued to slaveholders for death or damage of their slaves during the era when slavery was legal in the United States. It includes policies for slaves from ten states and the District of Columbia.
